Therapia Lane

Therapia Lane Depot Works

The purpose of the power re-balancing project was to more evenly distribute the power supply between the two circuit breakers present at the depot. ESL’s scope was to design;
• Feeder cable modification of the existing routes
• Modification of the OLE
• Cable installation for modified OLE
• Installation of section insulators
• Modification of equipment name plates
Due to the lack of existing As Built information, the first activity was to undertake an intrusive survey of the depot and to ascertain the status of the existing infrastructure. This included determining the condition and capacity of existing buried ducts.
The subsequent design scope included the identification of constraints relating to positioning of feeder cables such as clearances and turning radii as well as undertaking cable size and power loading calculations. An assessment was also undertaken to determine the need for surge arrestors within the depot.

The design works were undertaken on time and to budget and subsequently the works were delivered on site in accordance with the AFC design.

Project Description

Recently London Trams added new trams to their existing fleet.  As a consequence, the Therapia Lane Depot power supply system needed to be modified in order to correctly support the number of trams being stabled there.  A design for the modification of the traction power and OLE arrangement was therefore required.
