Constructed Wetlands: A Nature Based Design Solution

ESL rationalised the concept solution, relocating the reed bed and generating headroom in the hydraulics to remove one of the pumping stations and reduce the MCC sizing. We then optimised cut and fill volumes for the beds.

We repurposed an existing ASP tank to provide emergency storm storage to achieve the consent requirement.

Project Outcome

Design re-used 500T of excavated material on site to form clay bunds surrounding reed beds.

Using over 2000 plants, we designed to achieve a compliance 1.5mg/l total P annual average and biodiversity net gain of over 10% together with halving opex costs from the concept solution.
